ĂŰĚŇ´«Ă˝app building construction science group gathers for photo in PPE in front of summer buildTwenty-four Mississippi State building construction science students spent their summer designing and constructing a building that will serve as a modular fabrication shop for their department during upcoming renovations on campus.

The students were part of ĂŰĚŇ´«Ă˝app Assistant Professor Mohsen Garshasby’s first-year summer session studio—a fast-paced, compact option available to incoming BCS majors. The course included a lecture, or technical, portion that went hand-in-hand with the building, or fabrication.

building construction science students work on the inside metal piece of a roof trussStudio A, which was taught in June, focused on drawings, construction documents, blueprints, design process and building materials. Fabrication work included the foundation and framing up to the sheathing aspect of the building. In July, Studio B’s classroom focus was building systems—wall, roof and floor systems—as well as doors, windows and interior finishes. Also included was insulation, cladding systems and roof work.

The structure is providing an additional hands-on project for students in this semester’s mechanical electrical class, who are running electrical wire and potentially plumbing to finalize the shop.
