Upon graduation, Alysia Williams plans to work for a firm that specializes in housing and preservation. “I always knew that in the pursuit of architecture I wanted to specialize in housing," she said. “However, growing up around the city of Atlanta, Georgia, and observing the developments built in comparison to the low-income and homeless populations, my focus immediately shifted. Caring for people and creating positive and sustainable communities is important to me. My top goal as a future architect is to develop multiple rehabilitation and education shelters for the homeless and afflicted.”

A Mississippi State junior is the latest selection for the Method Studio Undergraduate Research Fellowship.

Third-year architecture student Alysia E. Williams of Kennesaw, Georgia will receive $3,000 to conduct research for Method Studio, a Utah-based architectural design firm.

"Receiving the fellowship position with Method Studio under their research program has quite honestly been the greatest and most rewarding achievement in my career thus far," said Alysia.

"I am so excited to be working with faculty and architects that share the same ideals as me, and I feel that this has initiated great things to come in my continuous journey of gaining understanding, my research on affordable housing and helping people in need. The fellowship will also aid my education here at Mississippi State University by providing me with essential real-world experiences as well as broadening my comprehensive architectural ability and understanding."

Jacob Gines, an associate professor of architecture who also is Method Studio’s research and design vice president, will supervise the research.

“Applied research opportunities are critical to preparing 21st century architects. The school is lucky to have professional partners who understand the value of such experiences to both the academy and industry alike,” said Jassen Callender, the school’s interim director. “Method Studio’s support is a testament to the incredible work of our students, faculty and staff.”

Located in Salt Lake City, Method Studio specializes in creative solutions that allow collaborations between clients and professional designers. For more about the firm, visit .
